Diagnosis of malnutrition in kids

If the children are not able to get a balanced diet for a very long time, then they are prone to malnutrition. Due to malnutrition, the disease resistance of the children decreases, due to which they are easily infected with many kinds of diseases. Malnutrition is often caused by non-receipt of a balanced diet.

If any child has a complaint of malnutrition, then doctors do some other tests besides children’s physical examination for this. They can check the patient’s blood or urine for this test.

The following things are checked in blood or urine to check malnutrition –

  • Electrolyte level- Some minerals are present in the body, such as potassium, calcium, and sodium, these are called electrolytes. If there is a serious imbalance in the body then it starts to travel, irregular heartbeat, muscle weakness, and other problems.
  • Check the level of iron, sugar, protein, and fat.
  • Checking of kidneys, liver, and thyroid gland.
  • Check some hormone levels.
  • Check the level of vitamins and minerals in the body present.
Doctors can also check the weight and height of the children in addition to all these. Doctors in malnourished children also check that some children are not allergic to milk or milk products or some other food item. It may be that the child who is eating does not seem to have her tone.
