Abortion without help, with the help of medicines, is called medical abortion. To do abortions through this procedure, doctors use two drugs called Mifepristone and Misoprostol. However, these medicines do not have any specific risks and the woman may be pregnant later in comfort. But some side effects of these medicines are also seen, such as heavy bleeding, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and cramping in the stomach etc. After taking these medicines, if a woman is pregnant then there is a serious risk of developing fetal deformity.
Medicines used for medical abortion
- Misoprostol:- this medicine opens the cervix and inspires the uterus to contract. Misoprostol, however, can end pregnancy alone, but sometimes in the first trimester of pregnancy, it has to be taken with some other drugs such as Mifepristone and methotrexate.
- Mifepristone and Misoprostol-Mifepristone are also called Mifeprips and RU-486. Its main work is to block the effect of progesterone hormone. This stops development of the placenta, the cervix opens and the uterus is ready for labor pains. After this, the Misoprostol produces contractions in the uterus so that all the tissues can come out.
- Methotrexate and Misoprostol- methotrexate prevents the development of the placenta, but it does not have the effect of mifepristone and it takes more time to have a miscarriage. Misoprostol extracts all the tissues inside the uterus.
